TRUE VOICE THEATRE
Finding the true voice of a character, based on what the script suggests and
what the dramatic action reveals, regardless of traditional stereotypes, is
the raison d'etre of True Voice Theatre. Set up in
2010, True Voice Theatre ran BIRDBATH as it's debut production.
BIRDBATH is a 1 Act play written in the 1960's by Off-Broadway writer Leonard Melfi. The play is set in New York and features two characters: The awkward, intense and apparantly damaged Velma Sparrow and Frankie Basta, a streetwise young man working as a cashier, whilst aspiring to poetry. This unlikely pair meet in a downtown cafe where Velma works as a waitress. Although from different worlds, Frankie eventually finds a muse in Velma and she in turn, a saviour.
